Equip your high school students with the writing and grammar skills they need to communicate in persuasive, engaging ways. Writing & Grammar 11 teaches grammar in the context of writing and focuses on the planning, research, and logic skills needed to compose and deliver clear communication grounded in a solid biblical worldview. Students will be able to apply planning and research strategies, compose a variety of texts on various themes using the writing process, demonstrate grammar and style proficiency in their writing, and deliver communication that is logically sound, engaging, and Christlike.
How BJU teaches Writing & Grammar 11:
- Thematic Approach – New and reorganized chapters are grouped into 6 themes, providing students with opportunities to write small and large assignments across genres. Essential questions keep students focused on the overarching themes, and complementary grammar instruction helps students apply grammar to the writing process.
- Systematic Grammar – Compelling writing includes mastery of English grammar and style, so students will learn and reinforce grammar systematically (rather than a just-in-time approach). This systematic grammar reinforces the thematic writing units, helping students to grow holistically as writers.
- Mentor Text Modeling – Thematic units are full of mentor texts with callout boxes providing deeper textual analysis. Students will understand why and how these mentor texts succeed and learn the ways each selection connects to grammar instruction and writing activities.
- Collaborative Learning – In addition to teacher modeling and feedback, students will revise and refine their writing in collaboration with one another. Students will also collaborate in group mind warm-ups and other engagement activities.
