Cori Dean

Cori Dean is a wife, a mom, a teacher, a writer and publisher, and book addict. She and her husband, Mark, have graduated three students from their exclusive all-girls school and have one teenager left at home. Cori enjoys speaking to homeschoolers coast to coast and is the author or editor of several publications including, Working Together: Teamwork Starts at Home Base. The Deans live in Bradford, Ontario where they own and run The Learning House, Canada’s premier homeschool resource provider and publishing house. They are also in full-time ministry with The Shop Vehicle Donation Program, a program of Youth for Christ. Cori loves long days of bicycling as well as camping and boating with the family or mucking in the garden and thinks there’s nothing better than a good book, some dark chocolate, and a cup of tea.

Louise House

Louise and her husband Harold home educated their four children from preschool through high school. Three of their children had learning struggles but they found ways to adapt and thrive in a homeschool environment.

In 1994 they founded a homeschool supply company called The Learning House. After selling the company in 2020, to Mark and Cori Dean, Louise continues to work with homeschooling families through curriculum counseling, speaking, and encouragement on a one-to-one basis.

FAQs

What is the start and end time of the course?

Morning registration begins at 8:30, with Session #1 starting at 9:00 a.m. The final session runs until 4:30, followed by a half hour (until 5:00 p.m.) for questions and wrap-up. A detailed schedule will be emailed to you once you are registered, including several accommodation options for those travelling from farther away.

Are online participants able to interact directly with the speakers?

Yes, online attendees can submit questions via email during the event, which we’ll address live while speaking.

Why is the online course the same price as the in-person option?

The cost for both online and in-person registration is the same for a couple of reasons:

  • We want to encourage people to attend in-person even though it is more costly for both us (rental of building, food costs, etc.) and you (gas, hotel, and so on). Also, shipping is included in the online registration fee.
  • The in-person fee covers one person. Additional people from the same household pay for their seat in-person. When registering online, a parent can include their spouse and teens without additional fees.

How long does the free shipping offer last?

Free shipping is available for one week after the event for both in-person and online attendees.

If our homeschool group gathers to watch the course online together, can we get a group rate?

Yes! We offer 10% off for online groups of 10 or more.

Each attendee would receive their own workbook. Online registration includes members of one household so you are welcome to include spouses and students in your group without cost as long as one member of the household is registered.  Purchase of additional workbooks should only be for additional people in the same household.

We certainly encourage you to gather a group to go through the course together. If you do, please let us know you intend to do so and have one person register all the attendees and we will apply the discount manually.  Course materials for the full group will be mailed to the address given by the one person who registers the group.

Thank you for honouring our hard work and the copyright of our material by not sharing an online registration outside of one household.

Can I invite a friend to watch the livestream with me?

We kindly ask that everyone watching the livestream outside of your household purchases their own registration. This helps us protect the copyright of the materials we’ve carefully prepared. Thank you for respecting the effort we’ve put into making this event valuable for all participants!

I’m not available on the day of the course—will there be a recording?

Absolutely! All registrants receive indefinite access to the full course recording after the event. Just sign up for the online course, and you can watch the sessions at your convenience. Don’t worry—you won’t miss a thing!

My child is in sixth grade—am I too early for this course?

Not at all! We’ve had attendees with children in early elementary as well as parents who’ve already graduated students but still have high schoolers at home. Many families find it helpful to attend well before the high school years for a low-pressure introduction. That said, we plan to run this course annually, so if you’d prefer, you’re welcome to join us in a year or two. Whatever timing works best for you!

What does “presented from a Christian perspective” mean? Can our non-religious family still benefit from this course?

We want to be transparent that this course is presented with a Christian lens. For example:

  • We may start or end the day with a short prayer.
  • Many of the resources we recommend (curriculums, books, etc.) reflect a Christian worldview.
  • Our discussions on planning and purpose include insights based on God’s authority and influence in our lives.

That said, this doesn’t change the practical information we cover, like creating transcripts, meeting post-secondary requirements, or exploring materials that work for your family.

We believe the course can still benefit you, but we understand if this approach doesn’t fit your needs. If that’s the case, Louise or I would be happy to offer a free one-on-one consultation to help you plan in a way that works for your family. Just contact us at [email protected] or 866-875-5550 to set up a session. We hope you can join us!
