Common Sense Science Plants

Designed for single-level or multilevel classrooms, homeschools, co-ops, or science clubs, Common Sense Science is for grades 3 through 6, with activities for 1st and 2nd grades to facilitate multi-level teaching.  The scripted lessons include vocabulary, research prompts for digging deeper, instructions for constructing 3D Graphic Organizers, and labs that use common household items. All hands-on science activities are coded by ability levels, enabling you  to teach all your children at the same time using one science curriculum.

Lessons in the Common Sense Science series are divided into 18 three-day weeks allowing you to complete two units a year.

Common Sense Science Plants covers:

  • the basic traits of plants as well as:
    • How plants make their own food (photosynthesis)
    • How plants respond to stimuli (hydotropism/phototrophism)
    • How plants reproduce
  • the four main plant groups:
    • Bryophytes
    • Ferns
    • Gymnosperms
    • Angiosperms
  • a study of the different parts of plants:
    • Seeds/Roots
    • Stems/Leaves
    • Flowers
  • finally, they will study:
    • Pollination
    • Falling Leaves
    • Tree Trunks
    • Simple and Compound Leaves

Graphic Organizers include a Types of Plants book and a Trees book.

To complete this study, you will need this book as well as a Student Materials Packet which are available in a bundle for your convenience.  If you are teaching more than one child, you will need to purchase a Student Materials Packet for each child as it is a consumable item.  Another option is to purchase this text along with the Student Materials Packet ebook and print multiple copies for your family.
