WriteShop Junior Book D Set

Is your child “writing-phobic”? Are you looking for a curriculum that puts the fun back in writing? Then you’ll love WriteShop Junior!

WriteShop Junior is a creative writing program that appeals to many learning styles. As with all WriteShop products, Book D helps you guide children through the steps of the writing process. To keep the experience fun for everyone, each lesson includes engaging games and activities that teach and review important writing and self-editing skills. And whether you have a more advanced child or one who is fairly new to writing, this program is flexible so children can work at their own level.

This set includes the tools to continue to guide students towards writing independence. Students will learn to plan, create, self-edit, and publish stories and reports.  They are taught to make sentences more interesting by using strong adjectives and active verbs, replacing weak words, and developing voice and emotion. Both nonfiction and fiction writing exercises are included.

Please note: If teaching multiple students, you will need to purchase extra student worksheet packs. You will need one per child.  The other student portions can be shared if you like.

Recommended Grade Levels and Placement Help

  • Ideal for students in 3rd and 4th grade.
  • May also be used with reluctant 5th graders (and even some 6th graders).
  • Parents also appreciate being able to use the program with struggling learners.
  • Start with Book D if your 8-to-11-year-old need to learn how to:
    • identify and use proper punctuation or grammar skills
    • identify and correctly use parts of speech
    • Narrow a broad topic to a specific topic
    • Brainstorm before writing
    • Write an adequate sentence
    • Write a basic paragraph
    • Choose strong words instead of weak ones
    • Use editing tools to correct and revise compositions.
  • If your child is already confident in most of the above areas, consider choosing Book E Set instead.
  • More reluctant 3rd graders should start with WriteShop Primary Book C.

Each WriteShop Junior level teaches specific skills within a range of ages, making it easier to choose the best place to begin the program. However, age and skill are not the only factors to consider when placing your student. Each student’s reasoning skills, emotional maturity, and ability to express ideas orally are also important considerations. So before you decide on a level, make sure to consider all of the factors. If you have a non-writer, reluctant writer, or a writer struggling with complex tasks, choose to slow down over starting at a too-easy level. Bear in mind that it’s more important to choose a level that fits your student’s thinking skills, not their grammar, spelling, or writing skills.
