Little House in the Big Woods - Study Guide

The Study Guide

We have sold Bible based literature study guides from Progeny Press for a number of years and have been very pleased with them. Progeny Press Study Guides are used in conjunction with age appropriate novels to explore literature from a sound biblical perspective. These study guides deal with literature as works of art and philosophy, explain and use literary terms, and deal with plot construction. They dig into why the characters act, believe, and feel as they do and examine what the Bible says in similar circumstances. Easy-to-use lessons include vocabulary exercises, comprehension and analysis, critical thinking, questions on related biblical principles, activities, plus a complete answer key. This is a book-bound format.

The Novel

In this book, Laura tells the story of growing up in the Big Woods of Wisconsin in the 1860's. There were no houses for miles around, just the Ingalls family: Charles and Caroline (Pa and Ma), Mary, Laura, and baby Carrie. Here we follow the day-to-day events of the life of Laura Ingall's over the course of a year. The story begins as the family prepares for winter, storing away food and preserving meat. During the long nights Pa tells stories and entertains the girl's with his fiddle. In the spring the family makes maple syrup. Summertime brings long days of hard work in the fields, and the fall brings the harvest. As the seasons change the chores and play-time of Laura and her big sister, Mary, also change. Little House in the Big Woods is a delightful look at family life on the frontier.
